The last few times I've started my AT in the morning it will tick a few times while I'm putting on my gloves and letting it warm up a bit, the engine also drops a couple hundred RPMs at each tick, this lasts for approximately a minute with 5-10 seconds between ticks. After the engine temp is up a little the ticks disappear.

    Any ideas?

    Thanks

    Brian

Mine does that too, usually just one knock. Seems to happen when they switch to and from summer fuels. Haven’t heard it in a while, then I disconnected the battery to check something and it came back.

Yes I noticed this on mine a few times, can’t say it’s always from cold start up but it seems to disappear when engine is warm, I’ve got 10,000 Miles on mine and it happened last week when I was touring Ireland, sounds like a tappet noise to me?

What I hear sounds like some sort of timing self test, maybe seeing how much timing advance the current tank of fuel can take, I start cold, hear one knock, dip in rpm, then fine. I have noticed that if I blip the throttle just a touch after cold start it doesn’t do it. After time it quits doing it all together. I’ve also noticed some valve train noise when the engine is cold, that goes away after warming. In any event it doesn’t seem to be a problem, maybe I’m just noticing more as I spend more time with the bike.

    Thanks for all the replies!

I blame 90% humidity in the mornings when I start the bike in the morning...sticky!

Mine takes extended cranking to start when cold and sounds like it's going to stall has anybody else had this problem.

I have once or twice but the temperature outside was below zero celcius. A little throttle and a few minutes to warm up and it was fine though.
